After seeing the hotel website, which states 'the bedrooms maintain the unique feel that makes Heritage a memorable favourite', my wife and I made a booking by telephone on the 29th June 2012 for that evening.
Upon arrival at just after 3PM on the 29th, I clearly woke the member of staff up, having to use the intercom at the side entrance repeatedly. I was asked to pay up front which, stupidly, I did. The room I was given stank of smoke, had cigarette burns on the carpet and a badly broken blind.
I went back downstairs and told the staff that I wasn't happy and would like a refund. I was refused one. The staff member said 'I don't have that authority'. He called the manager/owner who lived locally, and upon arrival he refused to give a refund also.
